Our Old Forge project in northeastern Pennsylvania will reclaim coal mining lands, purify contaminated rivers, and convert this newly purified mine water into secure, renewable electricity that delivers clean power safe from cybersecurity threats.
REA is partnering with industry leader Voith Hydro in a first-of-its-kind reclamation project that will go beyond remediating mine contamination in local waterways to convert that water into clean energy.
Voith Hydro, owners of the only hydropower manufacturing facility in North America, will use water which REA created using a chemical-free process that both enhances fish and wildlife habitats and generates clean, secure energy for local residents.
This newly purified mine water will be used in a new 165MW pumped storage hydroelectric power station capable of providing 24/7 renewable power generation through a secure microgrid capable of powering nine highway rest stops on America’s Hydropower Highway.
